![]() The front usher position is located at the end of the aisles towards the front of the sanctuary. He or she faces the rear of the sanctuary and greets the families in the same fashion, communicates with both the rear and front usher as to help with seating everyone, passes the offering baskets and helps with communion. The middle usher position is located in the middle of the aisle. He or she will face the rear of the sanctuary and greet the families in the same fashion while asking how many seats are needed to accommodate them and communicating that information using hand signals to the ushers closer to the front of the sanctuary.Īlthough people will ultimately sit where they wish, our goal is to seat everyone as close to the front when possible. ![]() This rear usher position is located at the beginning of each aisle. The usher positions explained below apply to all three aisles. There are three main aisles between the seats that lead up to the front of the sanctuary. Other duties for this position include helping the head or assistant ushers with anything they may need at the moment.Īt the end of the service it’s always great if you can be at the position again while folks are leaving to thank them for coming. Be quiet and respectful of the person involved. If a nearby person is ill or injured have someone go get the asst. They will get a replacement until you can get back or have the other usher in the aisle cover (most times we need to get a temp). ![]() If the usher needs to leave their station, flag down the assistant. Maintain facing to the rear of the of the church paying attention to the usher in front of you for signals. Ushers are encouraged to get involved with praise and worship as they can. Use hand signals (finger count for number of people) to the next usher to seat people as forward as we can and they wish. Your main focus in this position at the beginning of the service is really just to welcome everyone as they come in the doors, and if timing permits, direct them to the ushers located at the beginning of the aisles so they can help them to be seated. At times there will be several families entering at once. There are two main entries located as you come into the sanctuary on the north side of the building. We ask that all ushers be available back at the ushers station by the DJ booth for prayer and your position placement at least a half hour before the service starts as that allows the head and assistant ushers to have all bases covered so that they can enjoy the service as well.įor those whose position is in an aisle, it is important for you to be facing the rear of the sanctuary so you can greet and seat the families as they approach you.Īll ushers are requested to help welcome first time visitors by handing out the CCWC newsletter when asked to do so by the pastor. So please wear your name tags at all times. It’s more personable when everyone knows who you are. Making eye contact if possible, offering a friendly hand shake, telling them how glad you are to see them, or just a simple hello goes a long way in making a great first impression to start someone’s day. It’s very important that everyone be met at all doors with smiles and the warmest of hearts so that they feel at home when they come in. More often than not, the usher is the first to come in direct contact with families as they walk into the main sanctuary of the church. Serving as an usher is a very important role in the church. If possible, please come at least 20 to 30 minutes early as it helps us to know better who to place where. The head and assistant ushers usually have less than 20 minutes before each service to get everyone and everything in place. On communion day we need even more help as we double up the ushers in the aisles. ![]() There are at any given time 15 plus positions that are needed to be filled during a service in order for things run smoothly.
